Six Tiger boats destroyed

MANNAR: As ground troops consolidated their positions in Illuppaikkadavai in the North of Vidathalthivu, the Navy and the Air Force in a joint operation destroyed six Tiger boats and damaged two others which were operating in the sea off Nachchikuda in the North of Illuppaikkadavai.

Navy Spokesman Commander D.K.P. Dassanayaka told the Daily News Navy craft and Air Force gunship helicopters engaged the Tiger boats after detecting eight of them in the sea off Nachchikuda.

With the fall of Vidathalthivu and Illuppaikkadavai the LTTE had shifted their Sea Tiger activities further north on the North Western coast making Nachchikuda as their centre.
