Legal Aid Commission (LAC) Chairman S. S. Wijeratne praised the decision taken by the Educational Ministry to introduce law subjects in the educational curriculum and request students to study the elements of Sri Lankan basic laws.

LAC Chairman Wijeratne addressing the Senior Students of the Gamini Central College, Nuwara-Eliya recently said senior students should have some knowledge of basic law, and the Constitution.

Legal awareness is very important to students,” he said. People’s Bank sponsored fifth LAC-People’s Bank legal and thrift awareness programme was held at Gamini Central College, Nuwara-Eliya after inaugurating the fruit tree planting programme in the school premises along with the members of the Rotary Club of Nuwara-Eliya.

Student custodians of fruit trees are expected to receive prizes if the trees are well tended. People’s Bank Assistant General Manager Piyasiri Waduge impressed upon the students the importance of thrift and how the People’s Bank has established a separate Savings Accounts to dedicated students.
