‘Law subjects in educational curriculum good move’

Legal Aid Commission (LAC) Chairman S. S. Wijeratne praised the
decision taken by the Educational Ministry to introduce law subjects in
the educational curriculum and request students to study the elements of
Sri Lankan basic laws.
LAC Chairman Wijeratne addressing the Senior Students of the Gamini
Central College, Nuwara-Eliya recently said senior students should have
some knowledge of basic law, and the Constitution.
Legal awareness is very important to students,” he said. People’s
Bank sponsored fifth LAC-People’s Bank legal and thrift awareness
programme was held at Gamini Central College, Nuwara-Eliya after
inaugurating the fruit tree planting programme in the school premises
along with the members of the Rotary Club of Nuwara-Eliya.
Student custodians of fruit trees are expected to receive prizes if
the trees are well tended. People’s Bank Assistant General Manager
Piyasiri Waduge impressed upon the students the importance of thrift and
how the People’s Bank has established a separate Savings Accounts to
dedicated students.
