Rs. 307,250 fines on errant traders

The Department of Measures, Standards and Services of the District Secretariat, Kurunegala has conducted 110 raids during the period from January 1 upto June 30 this year on errant traders in the Kurunegala district.

These raids have been conducted in Kuliyapitiya, Narammala, Pilessa, Kurunegala, Polgahawela and Thulhiriya Judiciary areas. Cases were filed against the offenders at the respective Magistrate’s Courts under the charges of selling underweight bread, using unsealed scales and unauthorised scales and a sum of Rs. 307,250 have been recovered as fines.

These raids have been conducted by W.V.L.P.S. Wijerathne, OIC and Inspectors W.M. Jayarathna Banda, A.L. Hettige, K.L.P.P. Batewela and U.P.P.C. Uggaldeniya under the instructions of K.A. Gunasena, Director of the Department.
