Heeding to a request by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE),
the Nawaloka Group has come forward to help beleaguered Sri Lankan
migrant workers and has recently donated Rs. 937,000 (travel fare)
enabling 42 stranded female domestic workers in Kuwait return home.
The Ministry of Foreign Employment and Welfare recently took a
decision to clear all safe houses in the Middle East region which were
used to house Lankan’s who had sought refuge due to various abuses.
”These safe houses too had inadequate facilities to cater to the
large numbers who sought refuge thus both the inmates and Authorities
had to face numerous difficulties,” sources said.
In this backdrop, the Authorities back home took a decision to clear
all safe houses and in the future send all migrant workers who sought
shelter back home as soon as possible.
Recently, the SLBFE sought assistance from the private sector to come
forward and assist the Bureau in this matter.
Thus heeding the call, the Nawaloka Group has joined this worthy
cause and recently it’s Managing Director Jayantha Dharmadasa handed
over 42 return tickets worth of Rs. 9,37,000 to SLBFE Chairman Kingsly
Ranawaka enabling 42 stranded female domestic workers to return home
from Kuwait. |
