Sri Lanka in Group B for Women's WC
Sri Lanka were drawn in group B along with India, Pakistan and
England for the 2009 International Cricket Council (ICC) women's World
Cup limited overs cricket tournament which will be held from March 7 to
22 in Australia.
Sri Lanka's opening match will be against England on March 7 at
Canberra. On the same day India will take on their arch rivals Pakistan
at Bowral.
The group A will comprise of the hosts Australia, West Indies, New
Zealand and South Africa.
The maches will be worked off at six different venues in New South
Wales namely Sydney, Bankstown, Bowral, Canberra, Newcastle and
Drummoyne.
The most significant development in this edition is that for the
first time since 1973, the tournament comes under the umbrella of the
ICC following its merger with the International Women's Cricket Council
(IWCC) in 2005.
The top three teams in each group will go forward to the Super Six
stage where each side plays the teams to have qualified from the other
group.
