Walpola may play against CR

Kandy SC and Sri Lanka hooker Anuranga Walpola who was banned for one month by the Disciplinary Committee of the SLRFU may play in the crucial match against CR and FC on July 19 following a request by Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge to lift the ban.

Walpola was suspended by the Disciplinary committee of the SLRFU headed by SSP Ibrahim Hamid after an inquiry for allegedly verbally abusing touch judge D. Nimal after the Police-Kandy SC rugby match at Police Park on July 6.

Kandy SC had sent a letter of apology on behalf of Walpola to the SLRFU Disciplinary committee but the committee had decided to ban the player for one month. Following an appeal by Walpola the Sports Minister had instructed the SLRFU to lift the ban as he felt it was too harsh on the player.

The SLRFU has decided to submit the ministers letter to the Appeal Board to take a final decision.
