Hand grenade, bullets found in Sergeant’s house

A sergeant of Vavuniya Police and his wife were arrested after a special police team of Wellawa recovered a hand grenade and 18 T 56 live bullets from their house.

The suspect and his wife produced before Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Wasantha Kumara were remanded till July 23. The suspect during the last three months had sold three hand grenades to vehicle robbers.

Bharatha Natya Arangetram

The Bharatha Natya Arangetram of Kumari Mathura Shanmuganathan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. V. S. Shanmuganathan and disciple of Srimathy Thiriveni Sangar (Diploma in Bharathanatyam, Kalakshetra and M.F.A. in Bharatha Natyam, Bharathidasan University) will be held at the New Kathiresan hall, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4 tomorrow at 5.30 p.m.

Professor Saba Jeyarasa, President of the Colombo Tamil Sangam will be the chief guest while Srimathy Sivananthy Haridharshan and Pathma Gajendradas, Principal of Saiva Mangaiyar Vidyalayam, Wellawatte, Colombo 6 will be the guests of honour.

President’s Scout Guild AGM

The eight Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Queen’s and President’s Scout Guild will be held at the Janajaya Reception Hall (Mayor’s Official Residence), Dehiwela on Sunday from 9.30 a.m.

C. Batuwangala, Chief Scout Commissioner and Vajira Irugalbandara, Director - Public Relations to the President, will be the chief guest and the guest of honour.

New Deputy Chief Commissioner Shantha Madurawe and Executive Committee Chairman P. Katugahage will participate as the special invitees.

Children’s drama

The children’s drama Sarungalaya to mark the 80th anniversary of the Seelawathie Dhamma School attached to the Pravachanodaya Pirivena, Molligoda, Wadduwa will be presented by the students of the Dhamma School at the Vijaya Kumaratunga Drama Hall on Sunday at 3.30 p.m.

The Criminal Law Dictionary with Sinhala and Tamil translation to the words, The First Law Dictionary of Independence Sri Lanka and Asia’s first criminal Law Dictionary compiled as a result of two year research by M. R. Rajmohan will be released at Saraswathy Hall, Lorenz Road, Colombo 4 on Sunday at 4.00 p.m.
