German help for higher education sector
Higher Education Minister Professor Wiswa Warnapala received a
delegation of the Higher Education Information Agency of the German
Federal Government led by Peter Trapp at the Ministry of Higher
Education recently to work-out a strategic plan to set up a
fully-fledged information centre for planning, monitoring and evaluation
for the entire higher education sector.
This data based system, funded mainly through the resources allocated
by the Federal Government of Germany will cover information of the
entire higher education sector, such as universities, technical schools,
vocational training institutes, private higher education institutes,
labour market information, cross-border education etc.
This action programme will be implemented in three stages: Phase 1 -
Technical Training in Germany (Hanover), Phase 11 - Implementation and
Training, and Phase 111 - Study Tour and Technical Training in Germany.
During the discussion, Prof. Warnapala, praised the efforts made by
the Higher Education Information Agency of the German Federal Government
for the interest and the initiative taken.
The German delegation team led by Peter Trapp emphasised that the
German Government was keen to make this project a complete success in
Sri lanka as it will concentrate on labour market information which will
help the under-graduate population in Sri Lanka to grab vital
information in the labour markets around the world.
Other members of the delegation were Edgar Frackman, Helana Kopp,
Victor Skaldov and Franz Bummer.
University of Colombo School of Computing has been selected as the
local counterpart for the implementation of the first stage of this
project. |
