150 kg of Gelignite seized at road block

Police seized 150kg of gelignite explosives and arrested a suspect together with a van at a road block in Kalpitiya yesterday morning.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said a special unit from the Kalpitiya police observed a suspicious van at a road block in Kalpitiya around 8.30 am.

"Police which stopped a Nissan type van bearing number 53-2512 found 150kg of gelignite explosives packed in 44 small parcels carefully concealed inside the doors and other parts of the van," SSP Gunasekera told the Daily News.

He said police also found 10m of 15 wire codes along with the gelignite. The driver and the van were taken into custody.
