A bribery case has been filed against the Bogawanthalawa Coroner
before the Colombo High Court by the Commission to Investigate
Allegations of Bribery and Corruption allegedly for demanding and
accepting a gratification.
The Bribery Commission filed the case against Bogawanthalawa Coroner
Ramasami Jamaldeen alias Ramasami Jeyaraman of Temple Road,

Rs 70,000 from P. Mailwaganam on March 26, 2007.
According to the charges he had accepted the incentive from
Mailwaganam to remove a file from the Kandy High Court that included a
petition against Mailwaganam in connection with his wife Ramasami
Kamaladevi’s death.
In a statement to the Bribery Commission, Mailwaganam said the
inquest on his wife’s death was held by Jamaldeen and when he went to
obtain the death certificate and another letter stating his wife was
dead Jamaldeen had demanded the gratification.
Mailwaganam wanted the letter to obtain money he spent on the coffin
for his wife’s funeral from the Estate he was working.
According to the statement, Jamaldeen had said that the death
certificate could not be issued as a petition against Mailwaganam was
sent to the Kandy High Court and demanded Rs 70,000 to remove the file
