CAA earns Rs.10 m from fines

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has recorded a Rs.9.8 million
income collected through the fines following the raids conducted
islandwide from June 1 to June 25.
CAA Chairman Rumi Marzook said among the offences were concealing
stocks, selling at higher prices, not displaying the price tags on the
items and spreading rumours among consumers.
"We conducted a 1427 raids countrywide - 189 raids in January, 217 in
February, 223 in March, 601 in April and 197 in May."
The CAA has filed 1,324 court cases against errant traders across the
country. |
