Police probe attack on journalist, embassy officer

A full investigation has been launched into the assault on journalist Namal Perera, Acting Director for Media Rights issues at the Sri Lanka Press Institute and British High Commission Political Officer Mahendra Ratnaweera, Police said yesterday.

They were assaulted by a group of persons who blocked their car on Monday evening. Police said they were working on several leads. The British High Commission and the US Embassy condemned the assault. The US Embassy in a statement asked the authorities to bring the perpetrators to book at the earliest.
