Royal clinch Under 16 rugby title
Royal College Colombo clinched the ‘Suntel’ champions trophy by
beating S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia by 12 points (1 goal 1 try) to
7 (1 goal) in a nerve tingling match which was held at the Royal Sports
Complex on 29th June in front of a capacity crowd.
Royal won this match during extra time of play. The Reid Avenue boys
first scored a try before half time by their forward No. 8 Lahiru
Pathirana which was converted by their skipper Arshad Jamaldeen. This
score was equalled by the do or die St. Thomas’ College Skipper Centre
S. Kapuwatha with a try.
The scores stood deadlocked during full time of play. Then during the
1st half of extra time the match winning spectacular try was planted by
Royal Winger Madusha Kularatne. Thus Royal became the champs in the
under 16 Western Province Schools League Tournament. The Royal Under 14
team were joint champs who shared the cup with Isipathana.
Div I Under 14: Royal College and Isipathana College (Joint Champs).
Div II Under 14: Moratuwa Maha Vidyalaya beat Asoka Vidyalaya 7
points to nil.
Div I Under 16: Royal College beat St. Thomas’ College 12 points to 7
(Extra time).
Div II Under 16: Dudley Senanayake College beat St. Sebestian’s
College (Kandana) 17 points to 5. |
