ICC to experiment with tie breaker system

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to experiment
with the tie breaker system while replacing the bowl out method during
the on going six nation Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asia Cup limited
overs cricket tournament in Pakistan.
The tie breaker system will come into play if the Asia Cup final
scheduled for July 6 at the National Stadium in Karachi ends in a tie.
This will also be applicable during the semifinals and the final of the
ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan and also during the World Twenty20
tournament in England next year.
Under the rules for the new tie breaker each team will nominate three
of heir batsmen and one bowler. Each side will bat one over with the
innings being declared closed if it loses two wickets. Then If the teams
finish tied on runs scored in that one over the side with the higher
number of sixes in its full innings and in the one-over eliminator will
be declared the winner.
If the teams are still tied then the one with the higher number of
fours in both innings will win the match. The bowl out system has been
experimented earlier during two Twenty20 International matches.
Meanwhile the International Cricket Council has appointed Simon
Taufel and Tony Hill as the two umpires for the Asia Cup tournament
final on July 6.
In addition the six Super Four matches will be shared by Taufel and
Ian Gould, Tony Hill and Brian Jerling while Alan Hurst will oversea all
seven matches.
