Buddhist talk

Mrs. Anoja Wijesekera will deliver a public Buddhist talk in English on Kamma and its Importance at a meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society on Saturday, June 28 at 4.30 p.m. at the Maitri Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.

Panel discussion

A panel discussion on human rights will be held at the Auditorium of the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies, BMICH, Colombo on June 27 from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights Mahinda Samarasinghe will be the chief guest.

The speakers will be Rev. Fr. Noel Dias, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, Colombo University and Professor S.T. Hettige, Senior Professor, Chief of Sociology, University of Colombo.

The Moderator will be Mohan Peiris, PC, Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Defence.

Appointment

On the directive of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha Prof. Lal Perera has been appointed as the Director General of the National Education Institute.

Prof. Perera is the present Deputy Chairman of the National Education Commission and also a member of National Education Bill Formulating Committee.

Conference

The Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) which is the sole body assigned with the responsibility of safeguarding the profession of Library and Information Sciences in Sri Lanka, will be holding its Annual Conference on Library and Information Studies on June 24 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo.

Book launch

Two books published by the Institute of Professional Public Administrators (IPPA), ‘Provincial Councils after Twenty Years: Successes, Failures and Constraints’ by Ranjan Samaraweera, a retired officer of the SLAS and The Operational Experience of Fiscal Devolution and Provincial Finance in Sri Lanka’ by Asoka Gunawardene, Chairman of the Finance Commission will be launched on June 26 at 5 pm at the main auditorium of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), 28, Lesley Ranagala Mawatha, Colombo 8.

Professor Sudatta Ranasinghe of the Open University of Sri Lanka and Dr. R.H.S. Smaratunga, Deputy Security to the Treasury will introduce these books to the audience.

AGM

The 30th Annual General Meeting of the Kingswood Union - Colombo Branch will be held on Sunday, June 29 at 9.30 a.m. at the Park Premier Ballroom, Excel World, 228, T.B. Jayah Mawatha (Darly Road), Colombo 10.

Manavala Kalai

The Sky Practices (Manavala Kalai) which comprises Kayakalpa Yoga, Meditation Practices, physical exercises and Brahmagnanam (God Consciousness) will be conducted by Professor S. Luxmanan and Vice, Professor Murugananthan of Manavala Kalai in Germany from June 25 to July 8 and from July 13 to July 30 in London respectively.

The above Sky System of Practices was founded by Thathvagnani Vethathiri Maharishi of the World Community Service Centre.
