Asia Vision award for SLRC
The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation wins the Asia Vision Award for
the Best News Item of the Month of April surpassing 17 countries in the
Asia-Pacific region. Asia Vision is the daily news exchange of the
Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The award was presented for
international handling of breaking news events in the month of April.
The major news event was the Welivariya bomb blast that killed
Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle. ABU is considered as the leading
television institute in the Asia Pacific region.
Among its members are giants of the television field in the
Asia-Pacific region such as NHK-Japan, CCTV-China, Dooradarshan-India,
Channel News Asia-Singapore. RTM-Malaysia and Irab-Iran. Over 10,000
news items are being exchanged monthly by Asia Vision.
The Secretary General of the ABU, David Astley in his award
certification mentioned that the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation has
been presented with this award by considering its correct and
responsible reporting and the supply of news to the international
community in a speedy manner, and its contribution surpassed the efforts
of other regional contesters.
