UN Chief urges global partnership to tackle food crisis

UN: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- Moon on Wednesday called for a global partnership to tackle the current food crisis.

Addressing an informal session of the UN General Assembly, Ban said that easy access to food is already beyond the reach of most of the world’s poor at an affordable price.

He said that even in developed countries, the availability and cost of food now comes with an extra economic, political and social price.

“If we fail to act effectively now, we will see more unrest, the reversal of important development gains and the emergence of new humanitarian crises,” he said. “Going forward, we need a global partnership for food.” Xinhua
