Poson Bhakthi gee recital

The Poson Bakthi Geetha ceremony organised by the Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya, Primary Section, at Gangodawila will be held on Thursday, 19 at the school premises.


Poson Pinkama

A Poson pinkama will be held at the Panadura, Galgoda Sri Maha Viharaya today under the patronage of Viharadhipati Ven. Pothupitiye Pannasekara thera. The pinkama organised by the Mithrodaya Society includes Mal Pahan Buddha and Bodhi Pooja, Dhammadesana and Meditation. A Poson Bhakti Gee recital will follow at 7 p.m. at the Viharaya premises.


Ice cream dansala

An ice cream dansala organised by the People’s Bank, Kiribathgoda branch will be held in front of the bank today from 4.00 p.m.


Bhakthi Gee

A Poson Bhakti Gee recital and a fried rice dansala organised by the Panadura P.H. Dias Memorial Kethumathie Children’s Hospital will be held at the Hospital Premises at 7 p.m. today.


Poson events at Indigenous Medicine Ministry

The Indenenous Medicine Ministry in association with Ayurvedha Department, Ayuvedic Drugs Corporation and several other organizations have organized a series of events to celebrate the Poson poya.

About 350 Ayurveda practitioners will participate in these events.


Police to mark Poson with series of events

The Sri Lankan Police Department’s Buddhist Association will launch a series of events such as providing lunch for the inmates at Maharagama Cancer Hospital and holding a pinkama at Bodhirajarama Viharaya, Velipenna to mark the Poson Poya day.


Fisheries Ministry dansala

On a concept by the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister, Felix Perera a dansala will be held at Batuwatte Junction of the 12th consecutive year. A Poson thorana under the patronage of ‘Tharunayata Hetak’ organisation andCargills Ltd. will also be displayed.


Rice dansala

A rice dansala organised by the Welfare Association of the Main Post Office, Nugegoda to mark the Poson full moon poya will be held this afternoon at the Post Office premises. It is held for the 14th successive year with the assistance of the traders and people in the area.

A dharma deshana by Ven. Ratmalane Pragngnajeewa of the Sunethradevi International Buddhist Centre to invoke blessings on those who contributed to the dansala, will also be held on June 21 from 7 to 8 pm at the same venue.


Adistana Pahan Pooja

“Adistana Pahan Pooja” organised by the Dehiwela-Mt. Lavinia Trade Association and the Security Organisation of Dehiwela will be held today at Dehiwela, Karagampitiya, Subhodarama temple.

The objective of the event is to confer merit on the dead soldiers and civilians.


Poson pandal in Poonduluoya

General Secretary of Ceylon Workers Congress and Youth Empowerment and Socio Economic Development Minister Arumugan Thondaman has organised a poson ceremony by erecting a pandal at the samagi play ground in Poonduluoya from 18th to 23rd of May.

The all-night pirith pinkama organised by the Buddhist Association of the Ceylon Cold Stores, Colombo to mark Poson Poya was held at the company premises yesterday (17).


Islamic lecture in Tamil

An Islamic lecture organised by Dharunnadhvah Lilkhairiyath on “The Importance of Nikah (Marriage) by Al Haj Moulavi Ali Ahamed (Rashaadi), Pesh Imam of Madampitiya Camp Mosque will be held today immediately after Asar prayers at Al- Ma’hadul Bukhariyul Kadirie Thakiya (Jamiul Falah Jumma Mosque) 178, Layard’s Broadway, Colombo 14.


Krishnamurti talk

A recorded public talk delivered by the late Indian philosopher J. Krishnamurti on “Is it possible to keep totally sensitive?” will be replayed at the Anula Nursery School hall 310, High Level Road, Colombo 6 at 9.45 a.m on Sunday, June 22. The events is sponsored by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.


ACF seeks new probe

A French charity demanded on Tuesday an international probe into the killing of 17 of its employees in Sri Lanka in 2006. Paris-based Action Against Hunger, or ACF, asked the French Government and the European Union, among others, to set up an international panel to probe the August 2006 massacre in Muttur.

“The ACF is launching the ‘Justice for Muttur’ campaign, which aims at mobilising the humanitarian community, public opinion and international decision-makers to call for the opening of an international inquiry into the Muttur case,” the statement said.


51 dead in Baghdad blast

A powerful car bomb exploded in a crowded market area of Baghdad last night, killing 51 people and wounding 75, police said.


‘Advent of Poson a significant event’

The Poson Poya Day is of great importance to the Sri Lankans in view of its religious and cultural significance, the JVP in a release said.

The advent of Poson signifies the origin of Buddhists in Sri Lanka.

To protect the cultural ethos which we have inherited from Buddhism, it is opportune for us to resolve on this Poson Poya Day to direct our social and economic forward march on to the right path, the release said.
