Judicial officers' salaries should be separate - BASL

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) is strongly of the view that the salary scales of Judicial Officers should not be linked to the salary scales of any other category of officers in the public service in view of the accepted norm that the Judiciary is separate from the Legislature and the Executive, a BASL release said yesterday.

The BASL is also of the view that an appropriate remuneration package would substantially contribute to achieving such independence which is an indispensable requirement in a true democracy and therefore urge the Government to take such measures as are necessary to rectify this serious anomaly, the release said.
