Lanka celebrates anti-desertification day

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources will grant prizes on June 26 for the winners of the Poster and Art Competition held to mark the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on June 17.

Environment and Natural Resources Minister Champika Ranawaka will hand over the prizes and certificates to the winners. This year's theme for the UN's World Day for combatting Desertification and Drought was "Combatting land degradation for sustainable agriculture."

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources held a number of programmes throughout the country to make the public aware about the importance of protecting land against degradation and eventual desertification.
