Mihintale Aloka Pooja begins

ANURDHAPURA: The Mihintale Aloka Pooja organised by the Associated
Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. for the 46th time and sponsored by Abans Ltd.
and the CEB commenced yesterday with the switching on of illuminations
by Petroleum Resources Development Minister Duminda Dissanayake and ANCL
officials at 7 p.m.

The Aloka Pooja is held under the patronage of Mihintale Rajamaha
Viharadhipati Ven. Namalwewe Dharmakeerthi Sri Ratanasara Adhikarana
Sanghanayake Thera. Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana
Yapa and Cultural Affairs Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene will switch
on the illuminations today the second day of the illuminations.
Tomorrow, the concluding day, illuminations will be switched on by
North Central Province Governor Karunaratne Divulgane, former

North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayke and
Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadda, Nation Building Minister
S.M. Chandrasena, Highways Deputy Minister W.B. Ekanayake, Public
Trustee N.S.A.S. Seneviratne, Anuradhapura Government Agent H.M.K.
Herath, ANCL Chairman Bandula Padmakumara and CEB Chairman Udaya Sri
Kariyawasam will also grace the occasion. A Mihindu Perahera held at the
Mihintale sacred area on Tuesday, was telecast live on Rupavahini.
Poson Dhammadesana in Mihintale
Ven. Rajakeeya Panditha Sastrapathi Pitigala Vijitha Thera, Senior
Lecturer, Buddhist and Pali University and Director, Dematagoda Sri
Bodhiraja Dharmayatanaya will deliver the Poson Dhammadesana from
Mihintale Sacred Area at 8.30 a.m. today as part of the Lake House
Mihintala Aloka Pooja programme.
The Dhammadesana will be telecast on Rupavahini later in the day.
