Kulatunga - one year ban
The captain of the Colts Cricket Club and all rounder Jeewantha
Kulatunga was yesterday slapped a one year ban by the Disciplinary
Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) following the controversial SLC
Premier League inter club Tier 'A' tournament match against Moors Sports
Club at Braybrooke Place in March.
The match was marked with high drama as the Colts CC players decided
to return to the pavilion due to bad light with Moors SC just two runs
short of obtaining an outright victory. The game was however awarded to
Moors Sports Club by the Match Referee Graeme Labrooy after he had
provided a full report of the incident to the SLC Tournament Committee.
Colts Cricket Club who were in danger of facing a possible ban of
five to ten matches escaped with only a severe warning from the
Disciplinary Committee despite having committed a Level One offense.
The report was studied by the SLC Tournament Committee and the
members of the Interim Committee before a final decision was made by the
Disciplinary Committee in consultation with the Chairman of SLC Arjuna
Ranatunga. (C.D). |
