Royal and Visakha under 15 hockey champs

Royal College and Visakha Vidyalaya put up a sterling performance to
emerge unbeaten boys and girls champions respectively at the Colombo
Schools Under 15 Hockey Tournament conducted by the Colombo Schools
Hockey Committee and worked off at the Astro Turf, Reid Avenue Colombo
on Saturday.
In the boys final Royal College posted an impressive three goals to
one victory over Ananda College to maintain their winning streak. Centre
forward Susanga Jayawardane opened the account for Royal College to grab
one goal to nil lead at half time.
After the turn around again Susanga Jayawardena sounded the boards to
put Royal College two goals ahead. Ananda got their act together and
fought back well to record their first goal by converting a penalty
corner through their right extreme player. It was Royal’s Anuja
Gunasekera who scored the final goal of the match to bring the final
tally to three goals to one in their favour.
Skipper Maneesha Welaratne spearheaded defending champions Visakha
Vidyalaya to chalk out a one goal to nil triumph over Yasodhara Balika
Vidyalaya, Colombo to retain the girls title for the fifth successive
year. Semi finals- (boys) Ananda bt. Nalanda 1-0, Royal beat Isipathana
3-0, (girls) Yasodhara bt. Musaeus 2-0, Visakha bt. Presidents Girls’,
Rajagiriya 1-0.
All Island Tourney postponed
The All Island Under 15 Hockey Tournament for Boys and Girls has
rescheduled to be held from July 12 to 14 at Astro Turf, Reid Avenue,
Colombo. This tournament is conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey
Association with the Colombo Schools Hockey Committee and sponsored by
Singer `Sisil’. |
