ACS hosts fund-raiser for adopted school in Sri Lanka
Students at the American Community School of Beirut (ACS) organised a
fundraiser on Friday, collecting about $2,000 for two needy schools in
Sri Lanka and South Lebanon.
Children and teenagers gathered in the lush courtyard of the school
for a variety of performances, which also featured Lebanese comedian
Nemr Abu Nassar. The event, dubbed “Unplugged,” drew about 200 students
and teachers for an evening filled with food, music, dance and comedy.
‘Unplugged’ is one of roughly 10 events held each year by an ACS
student group called Sri Lanka Sister School.
The group was founded four years ago by an ACS teacher determined to
help out destitute schools in Sri Lanka, which was especially hard hit
by the tsunami of that same year. A group of 8th-grade students
contacted the Sri Lankan Embassy and other organisations to find a
school to help.
