Court bars Amila Thera's conference

Colombo District Judge Sisira Ratnayake yesterday issued an enjoining
order preventing the Conference that was to be held at 3 p.m. yesterday
at Maharagama organised by Ven. Dambara Amila Thera and three others in
the name of the Patriotic National Movement.
The same enjoining order precluded them from holding exhibitions or
press conferences in the name of the Patriotic National Movement (PNM)
for 14 days.
Attorney Ronald Perera appearing for the plaintiff President of the
Patriotic National Movement Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara yesterday submitted
before the District Court that the four were holding a press conferences
and public meetings propagating views contradictory to the views of PNM.
Plaintiff pleaded the Courts to issue the enjoining order against
defendants Ven. Dambara Amila Thera, Dr. Sayakkara Jayawardene Soyza
Thasi Hasan and Vini Hettigoda from holding the exhibitions and press
conferences until the pending disciplinary inquiry conducted against
them by the PNM was over.
The Counsel appearing for plaintiff also stated that the defendants
have been suspended from the executive committee membership and a
disciplinary inquiry was pending. The case was put off for August 13. |
