Terrorism, a threat to world peace - Security Council
UNITED NATIONS: The UN Security Council unanimously in a
non-binding statement condemned the attack that killed up to eight
people and wounded 27 in Pakistan.
“The Security Council condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist
attack that occurred outside the Danish Embassy in Islamabad,” said the
statement adopted by all 15 council members.
It stressed that all nations must cooperate with Pakistan “to bring
perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible
act of terrorism to justice.” And it made clear that “terrorism in all
its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats
to international peace and security.”
Earlier Monday, a suicide car bomb outside Denmark’s embassy in
Pakistan killed up to eight people and wounded 27 in a possible new
backlash over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, state media and
officials said.
There was no claim of responsibility but officials said the attack
was likely linked to the row over the Mohammed sketches, which Danish
newspapers first published in 2005 and then reprinted in February.
