Pakistan to buy Lankan wires to prevent power theft
KESC intends to import electric wires from Sri Lanka to prevent
electricity theft, as this system has successfully worked there, KESC
Managing Director Syed Muhammad Amjad Ali said during a meeting with the
delegation of the Consumers Association of Pakistan, led by Kaukab Iqbal.
The delegation urged the ending or, at least, the minimisation of the
duration of load shedding in Karachi. They said consumers must be
informed about load shedding in advance through the print or electronic
media and that the "fixed charges" levied by the KESC are an open
injustice.
The KESC official said every possible effort will be made to minimise
the duration of load shedding. He, however, said in the summer months,
the use of electricity increases manifold, giving a rise to the load
shedding duration. "We are fixing the system and our staff, from
linesmen to top level officers, is working on a war-footing," he said.
