FAO steps in with relief

On a request by Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe the Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO) has taken steps to donate 70 metric tons of dried rations to be distributed among the flood victims.

Moves are underway to distribute this consignment to be distributed among the flood victims in the Kalutara, Galle, Ratnapura, Matara, Gampaha and Kegalle districts.

Accordingly, 40 metric tons will be donated to the Kalutara district where a great number of flood victims were reported while the rest will be distributed in other districts.

The distribution process will be carried out under the direct guidance of the relevant Divisional Secretaries of the affected districts.

After considering the facts forwarded by the victims and Government Officials, the Minister has advised the officers to carry out relief work immediately .

The distribution of these consignments will be carried out among the flood victims in addition to the flood relief already being handed out by the Government.
