Dehiwala train explosion victims compensated

On the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Ministry will pay compensation to the victims of the Monday's LTTE parcel bomb explosion in a train at Dehiwala.

Accordingly Rs. 10,000 was paid as the first instalment of a payment of Rs. 50,000 as medical expenses for each of the 74 injured at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital by Minister Rishard Bathiutheen yesterday, the Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Ministry said in a press release.

The release added that arrangements have also been made to pay a maximum of Rs. 100,000 each to the next of kin of those who died in the explosion.

Arrangements have been made to pay an initial instalment of Rs. 50,000 and a sum of Rs. 10,000 each as funeral expenses in respect of the dead victims.

Rehabilitation Authority Chairman I.A. Hameed and Kalubowila Hospital Director Wilfred Kumarasinghe also attended the distribution held at the Kalubowila hospital.
