Promote mutual cooperation among business women

The Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) will hold `Woman
Entrepreneur of the Year 2007' on July 29 at Galadari Hotel, the
Chairperson WCIC, Ramya Weerakoon said at a press conference held at the
Hotel Galadari yesterday.
She said the selection of the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year will be
awarded under four categories namely large, medium, small and micro.
Women entrepreneurs with a minimum of Rs one million annual turnover up
to Rs twenty five million could apply for these categories respectively.
The closing date for the applications will be June 20 and all Sri
Lankan woman entrepreneurs including professionals and innovative
business women are eligible to apply for the award. There will be a
number of awards including the Woman Entrepreneur, the Innovative
Business, the Professional Woman and a special award titled SAARC Woman
Entrepreneur.
Weerakoon said this event was initiated in 1998 for the first time to
give national recognition for women entrepreneurs' contribution towards
the community and the local economy.
The objectives of the WCIC include promoting mutual cooperation among
business women in Sri Lanka specially in the rural areas through
networking and programmes focused on them. The WCIC has made
arrangements to educate women in business about the award through
seminars and media. |
