The Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) will hold `Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2007' on July 29 at Galadari Hotel, the Chairperson WCIC, Ramya Weerakoon said at a press conference held at the Hotel Galadari yesterday.

She said the selection of the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year will be awarded under four categories namely large, medium, small and micro. Women entrepreneurs with a minimum of Rs one million annual turnover up to Rs twenty five million could apply for these categories respectively.

The closing date for the applications will be June 20 and all Sri Lankan woman entrepreneurs including professionals and innovative business women are eligible to apply for the award. There will be a number of awards including the Woman Entrepreneur, the Innovative Business, the Professional Woman and a special award titled SAARC Woman Entrepreneur.

Weerakoon said this event was initiated in 1998 for the first time to give national recognition for women entrepreneurs' contribution towards the community and the local economy.

The objectives of the WCIC include promoting mutual cooperation among business women in Sri Lanka specially in the rural areas through networking and programmes focused on them. The WCIC has made arrangements to educate women in business about the award through seminars and media.
