Seylan offers its credit cardholders 'eZ Pay' mobile phone banking

Seylan Bank joined hands with Dialog Telekom to provide all Seylan Visa credit cardholders with a convenient way of paying for goods and services using a mobile phone, instead of carrying cash or credit cards.

It is for the first time in Sri Lanka that this facility will be available for credit cardholders.

The facility which is known as "eZ pay", is classified as South Asia's first ever mCommerce network which was introduced in Sri Lanka, by Dialog Telekom and NDB Bank last year.

With "eZ pay", Seylan Visa credit cardholders could use their mobile phones to pay for goods and services to the debit of their Credit Card account at merchant outlets displaying the "eZ pay" sign.

CEO, NDB Eran Wickramaratne said that the service is currently available with 2,500 merchants and soon it would be available with over 10,000.

"It is expected that there would be over 4 billion mobile users by 2010 with a penetration of 60 percent.

"We predict that M payments would be the future," he said. Seylan credit cardholders could settle utility bills such as electricity, water and telephone bills with eZ pay.

The Seylan credit card is the only credit card to offer this facility with a maximum credit period of 51 days without interest.

CEO, Dialog Telecom, Dr. Hans Wijesuriya said this service is very much secured as one has to use a PIN number to activate the transaction. "What is needed is a basic phone to get connected to eZ pay."

All "eZ pay" transactions are validated and authenticated by Seylan Bank using customer's Personal Identification (PIN).

This prevents unauthorised use of the facility even if the phone is lost or stolen, since transactions will not be permitted without the PIN.

Any Seylan Bank credit cardholder with a mobile phone equipped with a Dialog Post Paid or Kit Pre Paid SIM enabled with "eZ pay" can be a part of this new revolution.

Seylan Visa credit cardholders could replace their existing SIM with an "eZ pay" enabled SIM free at any Dialog Arcade or Service Centre by completing an "eZ pay" application form.(SS)
