SLAF pounds Iranamadu airstrip

Air Force fighter jets conducted a night air raid on the LTTE airstrip in Iranamadu yesterday around 8 p.m. Air Forces Spokesman Wing Commander Andrew Wijesuriya told the Daily News.

According to sources there had been a fire on the airstrip after it was pounded by the fighter jets. However Air Force Spokesman said there was no immediate confirmation about the extent of the damage caused to the airstrip.

Air Force fighter jets also pounded a Sea Tiger base in Vettilaikerni, Mulliyan yesterday morning causing heavy damages to LTTE cadres, Wijesuriya said.

Air Force fighter jets carried out an air raid around 6.45 a.m. targeting an LTTE sea Tiger base in Kaddiyankadu, two km South of Vettilaikerni and one km from the coastal belt.

"Air Force fighter pilots confirmed that the target was accurate and precise.

The air raid was conducted following information provided by ground intelligence sources and air surveillance," he added.
