Letter:
Samantha Algama and Gwen Herat
The 'Daily News' has been able to rise above the Interim Committee
and boldly without any fear to expose the injustice of the Interim
Committee in sacking such an excellent media man as Samantha Algama
without even batting an eye lid.
Your Sports page had highlighted the injustice meted to Algama by the
Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket as though it was their personal
property. Having said thus, your 'comment' also highlighted the
contribution Gwen Herat made to bring women's cricket to what it is
today as they are playing the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.
From scratch, Ms. Herat, pushed it to international level and she is
highly respected even at ICC for the role she played. I have kept a tab
on the development of women's cricket and we hope that this game will
not meet the same fate of men's cricket. It was clean administration.
Your tribute to her was magnanimous. You have placed your finger on
two highly respected individuals with unblemished reputation which is
very important for the progress of the game.
We are indebted to the Sports Minister for calling for a report on
Algama's dismissal and in the same breath I can tell the Minister that
Ms. Herat will be a terrific President to serve on the Interim Committee
judging by her administrative skills that saw women's cricket into ICC
and the discipline with which she did.
