Senior citizens' help for environmental conservation

The assistance of Senior Citizens will be obtained for environmental conservation and natural resources management under a programme drawn up by the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry on a concept of Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

The initial batch of 123 Senior Citizens enroled for this programme will receive their Identity Cards and other documents from Minister Ranawaka at a ceremony at the Central Environmental Authority auditorium at 10 a.m. today.

This group of Senior Citizens will come forward to solve community level problems encountered in forest conservation timber supply, wildlife and environmental conservation, marine pollution prevention and geological and mining sectors since the existing limited cadre was unable to cope with them, the Ministry said in a release.
