Suranga - match bag of 12/85

Leg spinner Suranga Rajaguru captured a match bag of 12 for 85 to steal the honour for Nugawela Central College in their Big Match for the C.W.W. Kannangara Trophy against Wallala A. Ratnayake Central College which ended in a draw for the sixth successive year at Police Grounds, Kandy.

But Wallala A. Ratnayake Central College won the C.W.W. Kannangara Trophy by virtue of their first innings win.

Suranga Rajapakse bowling to a tidy length captured 5 for 23 to bowl at Wallala Central for 197. N. Lakmal Ranthethgedera scored a blistering 75 with 14 fours and a six off 56 balls, medium pacer S.P.S. Amunugama also bowled well to capture 4 for 41.

Nugawela Cental College in reply were off to a reasonably good start with the scoreboard reading 143 for 3 at one stage. But they failed to consolidate against a varied attack and they were dismissed for 170. S. Rajaguru top scored with 37.

Wallala Central College have a first innings lead of 27 were dismissed for 171 in their second innings. Suranga Wijesekera top scored with 40 while Lakmal Ranthethgedera scored 39. But the innings belonged to leg spinner Suranga who had figures of 17-3-62-7 to return the best bowling figures in the series.

Nugawela Central College were set a victory target of 199 in 22 overs and they were 103 for 4 wkts when stumps were drawn in a match which was heading towards an interesting finish.

Wallala A. Ratnayake Central College - 197 all out in 51.1 overs (D. Madusanka 11, N. Lakmal Ranthethgedera 75, K. Jayasuriya 26, S. Gunatilleke 13, P. Abeysinghe 21, S.P.S. Amunugama 4 for 41, Suranga Rajaguru 5 for 23) and 171 all out in 46 overs (K. Madawa 14, S. Gunatilleke 36, S. Suranga Wijesekera 40, L. Ranthethgedera 39, Suranga Rajaguru 7 for 62, D. Gayashan 3 for 50).

Nugawela Central College - 170 all out in 63.1 overs (A.D. Abeyratne 48. B. Rajapakse 26, S. Amunugama 18, S. Rajaguru 37, S.D. Mudalige 3 for 25, R.Y. Abeysinghe 3 for 25) and 103 for 4 wkts in 22 overs (P.L. Somaratne 20, B. Rajapakse 13, A.D. Abeyratne 13, S. Amunugama 16 not out, S. Rajaguru 19 not out, S. Gunatilleke 2 for 41).
