JVP dissidents form new party

The breakaway JVP group led by MP Wimal Weerawansa yesterday submitted an application to the Elections Commissioner to register a new party named the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (National Freedom Front).

Weerawansa has been named the President of the Party while MP Nandana Gunatilake has been selected as the General Secretary.

Kamal Deshapriya is the National Convenor.

The Elections Commissioner will consider the application in due course. There are 53 recognised political parties in the country.
