HNB creates awareness to control Dengue and Chikungunya

HNB has come forward to partner the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) for the second consecutive year in their initiative to control Dengue and Chikungunya in Colombo by providing the much needed awareness creation for the CMC Programme.

For the control and prevention of these two diseases that devastated Colombo, the Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council initiated a control programme termed “No to D & C Campaign” which had activities spread throughout the year. While Chik fever was almost unheard for about a year dengue was reduced by 56%.

The “No to D& C Campaign” was initiated by the Public Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council as a joint Public Private partnership with HNB and several other firms towards a better tomorrow. However, now the two diseases have returned to the city with a vengeance.

“The Schools, Governmental Institutions, Private sector conglomerates should use this strategy to safeguard the health of their workers and fellow citizens by sustaining such a programme in the future. It is as a part of that endeavour we are teaming up with Hatton National Bank again to launch this Awareness Programme,” Dr Pradeep Kariyawasam Chief Medical Officer -Colombo Municipal Council said.
