Rumesh (68 not out) props up Cambrians

Prince of Wales’ College is in the box seat against St. Sebastians College in their annual 58th Battle of the Golds played at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa.

The game commenced at 11 a.m. due to heavy down pour in the previous night. When match came to halt at 3.30 p.m. on day one due to rain Cambrians were 170 for 4 runs with Sri Lanka Schools Cricketer Rumesh Thirimanne at the crease.

Sebs skipper Janitha Jayawardene won the toss and invited Cambrians to occupy the crease. Cambrian openers Nayana Priyanjana and Marlon Fernando batted cautiously and brought the score to 49 runs.

But due two rash shots both of them paid the penalty and at this stage skipper Shashan Silva joined Thirimanne and put on 116 runs for the third wicket. Silva too was shaping for a big score, got out for 41 runs. Thirimanne was unbeaten on 68 runs with six hits to the ropes.
