Tiger arms, ammo seized; suspects arrested
The STF recovered a cache of arms and ammunition believed to be
belonging to the LTTE and arrested several suspects during search
operations in Ampara and Batticaloa between April 14 and 19, Police
Headquarters said in a release yesterday.
The release added that a group of STF personnel from Tirukhovil camp
on April 15 recovered one A.P.S. machine and a bag containing medical
equipment and civilian clothes during an operation on April 15.
On April 18, personnel from the Thalawai camp recovered a 10 Kg.
claymore mine, two detonators, 100 T-56 ammunition, one claymore mine
pouch, one nine volt battery and 103 metres flexible wire during a
search operation in Vivekanandapuram and handed them over to the
Wellavali police station for investigation.
On April 19, personnel allocate to the Taripulthottam camp arrested
three persons who could not prove their identities at Karavetti and
Kalawanchikudy town and handed them over to the Vawnativu and
Kalawanchikudy police station.
On April 14, officers from the Shastraveli camp arrested four
suspects transporting four cart loads of illicit timber and handed them
over to the pottuvil police station with the timber for investigation. |
