Sports Mag WRAP out

The inaugural issue of WRAP the bi monthly sports oriented magazine was released recently published by WRAP Publications Pvt Limited.

The magazine edited by Srian Obeysekera is important to the sports world in view of the fact that it is the first fully fledged sports magazine dealing in a variety of topics ranging from cricket downwards.

Leading writers include Ashley Mallett and Kuldip Lal.

VB training camp concludes

Volleyball Training Camp organised by Homagama Youth Clubs Federation in collaboration with Pitipana Lion's Club was held recently at Homagama Central College grounds.

Young school girls and boys 160, and 65 youth club members participated at the training camp.

At the conclusion of the camp, a friendly volleyball tournament was also held among the represented teams. Both men and women championships were clinched by Kottawa North Dharmapala Vidyalaya.

Under the sponsorship of the Opposition Leader of Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha Priyantha Pathberiya all 20 teams were presented with volleyballs.

Jayantha Ketagoda, the Chairman of Pitipana Lion's Club Sampath Pathmawardane, the Youth Services Officer Neelsiri Katriarachchi and the Principal of the Central College Nevil Kularatne were also present.

Kasun shines for SJ University

University of Sri Jayewardenepura carried away the Prof. Priyantha Wijethunga Challenge Trophy when they defeated University of Moratuwa and University of Ruhuna in their annual Triangular Cricket Tournament which concluded recently.

It was Kasun Perera who shined for Sri Jayewardenepura when he had the best figures of three wickets for no runs against University of Moratuwa and later followed by it claiming 4/20 against Ruhuna University.

D. M. Perera scored a ton vs Ruhuna Campus.

Carey Old Boys win

Old Boys of Carey College defeated their present boys by three wickets in their annual cricket encounter which was played at Malay Cricket grounds last Sunday. K.D. Chinthaka with a fine half century paved the way for the Old Boys to register their victory.

Present Boys: 141 in 29 overs (K. Chamara 13, A. Hajireen 24, D. Dissanayake 11, I. Amila 31, B. Senaratne 14, J. Wouterz 5 for 13, D. Abeygunawardena 2 for 24.

Old Boys: 145 (K. D. Chinthaka 55, J. Wouterz 24, A Hafiz 14 I. Sampath 2 for 30, A. Nazeer 3 for 6.)
