All must join hands to end Tiger terrorism - JVP MP

KOTTE: The best answer for this type of brutal terrorist acts is for all to join hands to put an end to Tiger terrorism in this country, said JVP Parliamentarian K.D. Lal Kantha in a brief eulogy when the remains of Highways and Road Development Minister Jayaraj Fernandopulle were brought to Parliament for Parliamentarians and Parliamentary staff to pay respects yesterday.

Lal Kantha said: “First of all we join Minister Fernadopulle’s family to share their grief.

Minister Fernandopulle rendered a great service in his capacity as the Chief Government Whip and I feel that it will take a long time to fill the void created by his demise.

As Chief Whip, he rendered his service with a deep sense of maturity. Tiger terrorists have laid out a calculated plan to assassinate leaders of such calibre with the assistance of their local and international forces and supporters.

At this hour I firmly believe that we should all rally round to defeat these reactionary forces and make this country a better place for all to live in while protecting national leaders of Fernandopulle’s calibre.

As responsible people we should all take action in this direction. Specially let us all, including the Government, President, Cabinet and members of the Opposition join hands to prevent happenings of this nature in future.”

Lal Kantha said: “We should all join hands to put an end to Tiger terrorism. Unless we do so, I don’t think that we could find an answer to this problem.

The LTTE has been engaged in killing leaders of all political parties which opposed them.

They have killed leaders of Tamil parties as well. President R. Premadasa and Minister Lalith Athulathmudali and Gamini Dissanayake of the UNP were killed by them.

They made an abortive attempt on the life of former President Chandrika Kumaratunga. From the point of view of the Tigers this seems to be an unending process. As such from our point of view what we must do is to join hands to defeat Tiger terrorists and all forces aiding and abetting it after properly identifying them.”
