Deaths of athletics personalities: President condoles

COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday expressed his condolences over the telephone to the family members of National Athletic Coach Lakshman de Alwis, renowned marathon runner K.A. Karunaratne and athletics official Col. P.S.S.R. Udayadeera, who died in the bomb explosion in Weliweriya on Sunday.

President Rajapaksa said he was saddened to hear of the deaths of these eminent athletics personalities who had rendered a yeoman service to local athletics and to the country in general.
