Grain storage systems lead to higher profits
At the recently concluded VICTAM exhibition in Thailand the emphasis
was on short term and long term storage of grain such as corn, paddy and
soya.
It has been identified that in some countries as much of 40% of grain
is wasted due to the unavailability of suitable and efficient grain
storage systems.
Vice President of The GSI Group of USA Larry Prichett who was present
at this occasion emphasised the need for modern storage methods
worldwide. The success of grain farmers in the USA, he said, was also
due to the usage of modern storage, drying and aeration systems.
In some countries, traditional, outdated methods are still used
resulting in unhygienic conditions, infestation of insects etc.
difficult and bad handling and of course substantial wastage. Even with
high yields, wastage of up to 40% of harvested grain also means 40% of
wastage of finances, fertiliser and labour input.
This no farmer or businessman should tolerate, especially when
alternative modern methods are now available. Farmers and businessmen
could also gain substantially by holding grain commodities under
hygienic and ideal conditions for better returns financially during off
season and at times of reduced market supply.
A large number of visitors at VICTAM in Thailand, showed considerable
interest in modern grain storage systems mainly due to understanding the
vast advantages financially and operationally as compared to traditional
outdated storage systems. |
