National VB Championship final stage from today

The Munchee National Volleyball Championship organised by Sri Lanka
Volleyball Federation and sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd will get
under way today at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
The championship which commenced in the early part of February saw
2,772 men and women teams battle at district level. Five hundred and
ninety nine teams from both categories fought hard provincial level to
qualify for the national championship.
A total 58 teams men and women qualified for the final stage, the
main championship the Munchee Trophy.
The championship will come to an end on March 23 with both finals set
for this day.
The highlight this year is the participation of three teams from
Jaffna district.
The teams that reached the final stage from Jaffna are Central Sports
Club, Kopai United Sports Club, Kankesanturai and Young Hindu Sports
Club, Kopai.
For the first time Railway Department Sports Club men and women made
their way to finals from the Western Province.
The third team being Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Meanwhile in the
women's category Golden Birds Sports Club, Radawana joined SLPA and
Railway SC from the Western Province.
Sri Lanka Air Force heads the Southern Province with Sri Lanka Police
and Siluwita SC playing in the men's group while Wijayaba School SC join
Air Women and Police Women to play in the finals.
From the Ampara district and Trincomalee district four teams have
found their way to the finals. |
