Programme for women inmates

A special programme for the welfare of women inmates at the Welikada prison was launched by the Sri Lanka Navy’s Seva Vanitha Unit on Tuesday to mark International Women’s Day which fell on March 8.

Seva Vanitha Unit President Ashoka Karannagoda took steps to release two inmates held for minor offences. The donation of gifts to the children of women inmates also took place with the women inmates too getting donations.

The event was followed by a cultural show in which the inmates staged some presentations and the Navy cultural troupe performed.
