Call to achieve plantation project targets

Plantation Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne said officials should be dedicated to achieve set targets of plantation development projects being implemented in 471 estates managed by the Government and the private sector.

The Minister was speaking at a progress review meeting of the project at the Ministry recently. Ministry Acting Secretary Wimal Jayawardene Additional Secretary Y.G. Wijeratne were present.

The Minister said this project will augment the productivity of estates managed by the corporate sector and estate workers’ living standards. The project is aimed at reducing production cost, improving labour productivity and estate workers’ professional standard.

The project activities include the introduction of low interest loan scheme, launching of social development activities and standardisation of tea factories.

Over 700 Km stretch of road was rehabilitated to-date under this programme costing Rs. 241 million in the Estate sector.
