Iran’s Parliamentary election today

IRAN: Iranians vot in the eighth parliamentary election since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The vote is being watched for pointers about the popularity of hardline conservative President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who critics say has pursued policies that have lifted inflation into double digits in the world’s fourth largest oil producer.

His opponents, pro-reform candidates who want social and political change at home, as well as better ties with the West, say the odds have been stacked against them because a vetting process has barred many of their main candidates from the race.
