MAS Holdings pocket double

MAS Holdings pocketed a double when they emerged champions in the
women's 'B' division and men's 'D' division in the Delmege Mercantile
Super League Basketball tournament worked off at the Otters Aquatic Club
courts.
The tournament is conducted by the Mercantile Services Basketball
Association and sponsored by Delmege for the sixth successive year.
MAS Holdings men's B team beat Eagle Insurance (50 points to 49) in a
gruelling final to take the 'D' division title after trailing 21 points
to 23 at the short whistle.
Nalanga Fernando scored 22 points while Mahesh Fernando with 15
points was the other shooter for the winners. Sunith Perera with 20
points and Asanga Amaratunge (18) were the outstanding cagers for Eagle
Insurance.
MAS Holdings posted a convincing 50 points to 45 victory over Sri
Lankan Airlines to be crowned as women's 'B' division champions in the
Delmege Mercantile Super League Basketball Tournament played at Otters
courts.
The half time scores closely remained at 20 points to 19 in favour of
MAS Holdings. S. Lokuge (18) and H. Hewaduniwila (12) stood out for the
winners while M. Chamari (21) and Sashi de Silva with nine points were
on target for the losers.
The tournament will come to an end today with the men's 'A' division
finals between Defending champions Delmege Group and Sampath Bank while
Seylan Cagers will take on David Peiris Motor Company (DPMC) in the
women's 'A' division final at Otters. This is the first time that DPMC
women cruise into a final of this event. |
