The Transport Ministry will centralise the functions of 103 depots
islandwide, encompassing Regional Offices, Head Office, Secretary and
the Minister’s office by establishing a computerised network. The move is
implemented with a view to carry out proper monitoring to ensure a
satisfactory bus service to commuters.
A spokesman for the Transport Ministry said it is expected to provide
centralised information to facilitate the administration affairs of the
SLCTB. The database comprises revenue statics, daily operating buses,
time tables, quantity of spare parts, accidents and other essential
information.
The system will vastly benefit for implementing correct decisions.
“Daily operations in each department can be coordinated and updated and
information obtained by using of code numbers by the relevant sections”
he said.
He said that the latest technology is expected to be adopted to the
functions of the state transport sector. The time tables of trains and
buses will be programmed to ascertain the correct details during the
operation times.
Computers have been sent to each depot while steps have been taken to
train the staff on operating the computers. When Minister Dullas
Allahapperuma assumed duties, the SLCTB was using outdated technology.
Poor data collection in the depots was the reason for the fraud and
malpractices in the state transport sector. |
