Sri Lanka Insurance wins people’s award

Sri Lanka Insurance walked away with a silver award for best HR Systems and Processes at the HRM Awards 2007 organised by the Association for Human Resources Professionals (AHRP) in collaboration with Hewitt Associates, India.

The process instigated in mid October 2007 where all participants had to undergo an on-site audit to ensure their HR Systems and processes are in precise standards.

This includes comprehensive study of each organisation’s systems to ensure they are in line with organisation’s business objectives and add value to organisation processes. For the final round 20 companies were chosen from different industries where 10 gold awards and 19 silver awards were presented.

With the privatisation in 2003, company focused on internal processors that are aligned with global standards bringing in dynamism to the excellent expertise already available. In this process high priority is given to the organisation’s HR Systems and initiatives on people development focusing towards achieving organisational objectives.

Head of HRD Mahesh Jayasinghe stressed the success factors accredited to winning the silver awards: “We were able to win a silver award because our employees have transformed themselves towards a private sector performance driven culture with right attitude and loyalty towards the organisation.

People’s development is one of the key areas focused on at the moment and a variety of development programmes are designed for this purpose. On the long-term our objective is to retain the key talent within the organisation while ensuring employees are fully engaged and empowered”.
